Just Peace Open Day: Peace Concert
- Date: 21 September
- Time: 14:30 - 15:30
- Location: Nationaal Monument Oranjehotel
About the Event
Join us on September 21 at NM Oranjehotel for a special event that brings together the magic of music and the profound message of peace.
Peace Concert is a classical concert by a brass quintet of the Residentie Orkest, organized in collaboration with National Monument Oranjehotel and Just Peace, with a message of hope, solidarity, peace and justice.
In the open-air theater of the NM Oranjehotel we will conclude the Just Peace Open Day 2025. Enjoy a concert full of harmony, inspiration and a unified movement toward a more peaceful world. Let the tunes inspire you to take action in your own life, to encourage tolerance in your own environment and beyond, and to stand in solidarity with those deprived of their basic human rights.
The program includes works by Bach, Grieg and Palestrina. These pieces were also played at the very first commemoration at the Oranjehotel 80 years ago and will now be heard again complemented by other appropriate music for this Peace Concert.
Reserve your free ticket to experience this special music performance. Whether you are a music lover, an advocate for peace, or just someone who wants to experience the beauty of unity, this performance is open to all.
You are welcome to combine the concert and the Just Peace Open Day with a visit to the National Monument Oranjehotel. Visitors to the concert and the Just Peace Open Day will receive a €2.50 discount on their museum ticket at the National Monument Oranjehotel. The discount is only valid on September 21, 2025. The museum is open from 10:30 till 17:00.
About the organization
Symphony 2030 is the title of the social pillar of the Residentie Orkest. With projects such as RO in the neighborhood, Welcome to the RO and customized and thematic projects with social partners, we want to inspire and connect residents of The Hague.
The Hague is a city with great challenges in terms of polarization, opportunity inequality and poverty. It is also a city of great cultural and artistic richness. We believe in the power of music as an instrument to bring about positive change and through our music we put themes such as discrimination, inequality of opportunity, poverty and Peace on the agenda. We see very strongly that by working together as an orchestra with community partners we can organize even more powerful activities and together reach and connect better and more people.
Behind the wall of Scheveningen prison is the “Oranjehotel,” the nickname for the cell complex during World War II. Over 25,000 people were imprisoned here between 1940 and 1945 for interrogation and trial by the German occupiers. The complex was soon given the name “Oranjehotel,” in honor of the many resistance fighters who were held here awaiting trial or sentencing. But other people who were a threat to the Nazi regime were also imprisoned there: Jews, Roma and Sinti, communists, black marketeers and Jehovah's Witnesses. The prison was the main German police prison in occupied Holland, a symbol of lawlessness and oppression.
Anyone who thinks of The Hague thinks of peace and justice. Our city is home to the International Court of Justice and the Peace Palace, among others, and is therefore world famous. With Just Peace we bring peace and justice to life for everyone in the city. Through stories, events and more, we hope to inspire you. Find out what's on offer here. Every year Just Peace organizes an Open Day in cooperation with The Hague City Council and the (inter)national organizations working on peace & justice in The Hague. Everyone is welcome to visit the Open Day and learn more about peace and justice in The Hague.
