Open Lecture Series

What does protest look like today? Sometimes loud, sometimes quiet. Sometimes creative, sometimes confrontational. Protest can be personal or collective. From street demonstrations to poetry, music, fashion and art – protest takes many forms.

The Art of Protest is a lecture series at The Hague University of Applied Sciences. Each week, we discuss how people around the world use protest to highlight injustice, make their voices heard and stimulate change. You will discover the history and future of protest through real stories, cultural examples and creative perspectives.

Guest speakers from across Europe share their work and vision. Artists, performers and activists provide insight into how protest continues to shape our society – in powerful and sometimes unexpected ways.

These lectures are for anyone interested in activism, creativity, social issues, or simply curious about a different perspective on protest.

The lecture series is a collaboration between European Studies and The Lighthouse. The lectures are free and open to all students and staff of The Hague University of Applied Sciences. You can attend one lecture, a few, or all of them. The lectures will be given in English.

Lectures and Schedule

The lectures will take place on Tuesdays from 2 September to 9 December 2025, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. There will be a total of 13 sessions, each focusing on a different theme related to protest, activism and creative forms of resistance.
