What does war do to the people who didn’t choose it — but find themselves caught in the middle?
And how do you hold together a fragile world order before it truly collapses?

As part of the Just Peace Festival 2025, in the lead-up to the NATO summit, Movies that Matter joins forces with PAARD, Flora Filmtheater, and Theater & Filmhuis Dakota for a specially curated film series titled ‘NATO Film Week’, highlighting the complexity of war and the challenge of maintaining peace.

Four very different films, offering entirely different perspectives — together forming one powerful reflection of our time.

Facing War will be screened twice during the festival:

  • 22 juni at GR8
  • 24 juni at Theater en Filmhuis Dakota

About the Film

A political documentary offering a unique inside look at NATO leadership during Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine. As Western unity begins to falter, Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg extends his term by one final year, pledging to support President Zelensky “for as long as it takes.” But with NATO decisions requiring unanimous agreement, his promise is tested by growing divisions among member states.

With unprecedented access to NATO’s inner workings, the film closely follows Stoltenberg as he navigates high-stakes diplomacy, balancing the demands of world leaders like Biden, Macron, Zelensky, Erdoğan, and Orbán. As Western support for Ukraine begins to waver, he must find a way to keep NATO united and prevent the alliance from breaking under political pressure.

A highly relevant documentary, offering a timely examination of diplomacy, democracy, and global security in an era of deep uncertainty. Can Stoltenberg keep his word to Zelensky?
