NAVO Filmweek: Toen mijn vader een struik werd
- Date: 25 June
- Time: 13:30
- Location: Theater en Filmhuis Dakota

What does war do to those who didn’t choose it — but find themselves caught in the middle?
And how do you hold together a fragile world order before it truly falls apart?
As part of the Just Peace Festival 2025, in the lead-up to the NATO summit, Movies that Matter joins forces with PAARD, Flora Filmtheater, and Theater & Filmhuis Dakota for a specially curated film series titled NATO Film Week, exploring the complexity of war and the challenge of preserving peace.
About the Film
Ten-year-old Toda lives in a bakery with her father, the best pie baker in the country. One day, everything changes: her father is suddenly called away to defend the country. Toda must travel to her mother, who lives in a neighboring country where it is safe.
And so begins Toda’s adventurous and thrilling journey, along which she meets the strangest people and ends up in the most absurd situations. Toda is a girl who doesn’t give up easily — but will she succeed in finding her mother?
After the film, there will be a 30-minute workshop with experienced children's philosopher Trees Steeghs. With lemonade and a treat, children will reflect on the themes of the film through playful and thoughtful activities.
All children are welcome to join the group discussion! We kindly ask parents to wait in our café during the workshop.
The film starts at 13:30 and the full programme, including the workshop, ends around 15:45.
