Exhibition aHOUSEforHOME

  • Date:
  • Location: Atrium City Hall

What does ‘home’ mean in a new city? From January 12 until January 27, the exhibition of aHOUSEforHOME brings the perspectives of young Ukrainian displaced persons to the Atrium City Hall. Through photography, sound and other creative forms, they share their experiences and reflections on navigating their life in The Netherlands. The exhibition emerged from the aHOUSEforHOME Autumn School, a one-week creative workshop in The Hague. The result is an immersive installation where fifteen Ukrainians teenagers invite the public to see the city of The Hague through their eyes and feel how a new place can slowly become a home.

When art meets research The aHOUSEforHOME Autumn School was a collaboration between VATAHA Foundation, Urban Reform NGO and the Urban Social Development research group of The Hague University of Applied Sciences. Since 2025, the research group collaborates with the Municipality of The Hague to conduct research on the wellbeing and needs of Ukrainian displaced teenagers. To explore this sometimes abstract topic, in-depth interviews are combined with insights from the creative workshops of the autumn school. The artistic process helped the participants to express ideas and experiences that might otherwise be difficult to capture in words, giving them the freedom to share their stories in a different way.

This project has been made possible with the support of the Municipality of The Hague, Stroom Den Haag, Jeugdvakantieloket and Stichting Bylandt. More information on the project can be found ua-nl.school.
