Appeal: sign for peace
To mothers and everyone else, regardless of your political or religious background: Help us, don't create children of war, but children of peace. Call on all warring parties to engage in dialogue! Support this appeal, be for peace.
Sick of violence
This appeal comes from mothers and women who see heartbreaking images every day of maimed, killed, orphaned, sick, starving, and displaced children in war zones. The suffering of these children, of soldiers, and of all their families is beyond comprehension. We can no longer stand by and watch.
Mothers
The last thing a mother wants is for her child to go to the battlefield to kill another person or to be killed themselves. Moreover, we know that the human suffering caused by wars continues for generations. If we are not careful, we will become increasingly accustomed to the escalation of conflicts, in which attacks are followed by an endless chain reaction of revenge and retaliation. Remember Gandhi's warning: “An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind!”
The path to peace and de-escalation
Research shows that wars are stopped by de-escalation and diplomatic pressure. De-escalation is possible through internal pressure from the population in the country itself and through international pressure. Our commitment to peace is particularly urgent at the moment, now that major powers are threatening to use nuclear weapons. You could argue that weapons are necessary for defense in the event of an attack by an aggressor. But escalation must stop immediately. Without intervention, this will continue until the worst level is reached: 'together into the abyss'.
And that's not even mentioning the consequences of wars on the destruction of animals, nature reserves, loss of biodiversity, and the enormous CO₂ emissions caused by the use of weapons and military systems (make those figures public!). That too is a reason to end a war. This appeal is therefore to all citizens who recognize themselves in this heartfelt cry and realize that wars can only be stopped by public (inter)national moral pressure. Join us in raising a powerful counter-voice.
