In January 2017, for the first time, a group of people came together who had rallied around the idea of getting more women elected in that year's House of Representatives elections. We chose the tactic of the Preferential Vote, calling on voters to vote for women lower down the list. By voting for women in supposedly “ineligible” spots, they could still get elected. The first voting campaign, towards the House of Representatives elections in March 2017 was an immediate success; an additional three women were elected via preferential votes! A historic event; it had not happened before that so many additional women entered the House of Representatives via preferential votes.
