Italian family chronicle about a large family in a mountain village during the last year of World War II.
1944. In Vermiglio, a mountain village high in the Italian Alps, the war casts its shadow over life, even though it is far away. The arrival of Pietro, a Sicilian soldier who has deserted, disrupts the dynamics of the otherwise peaceful village, and especially that of the teacher's family. Lucia, the eldest of the family, feels very attracted to the stranger. Over four seasons, we see how the thick layer of snow melts, love blossoms, and peace spreads across Italy. But while the rest of the world slowly emerges from tragedy, the family has its own tragedy to endure.
Vermiglio was awarded the Silver Lion, the grand jury prize, at the Venice Film Festival.
