Road to Summit, The Hague programme of Peace and Justice

Theater Performance: Van de Kaart

  • Date: 07 May
  • label.tijd 20:00 uur - 21:30 uur
  • Location: Zaal 3

No grasp of geopolitics, but interested in the world? Then come to Van de Kaart.

Here we go beyond the news and take you in search of urgent and current stories about borders. An evening of live interviews, music, presentations and a quiz that will take you around the world without leaving your seat.

With guests from the arts, science and journalism, we will look at unrecognized countries, micro-nations and disputed border areas. Because according to the United Nations, there are 193 countries in the world (de jure) - but in reality (de facto) there are a lot more.

Program May 7

What a lot is going on with Kurdistan, the unrecognized state spreading across four Middle Eastern countries. Documentary filmmaker Reber Dosky just returned from the region, where he is working on a television series. What is it like to be in Kurdistan while the geopolitical situation keeps shifting under your hands?

The Facto's own Jorie Horsthuis talks about her experiences in Kosovo, where the scars of history have not exactly healed.

Graphic designer Floor Koomen tells us in what wondrous ways North and South Korea are trying to find each other after all.

Music is provided by the nine-member choir Slavuj, which sings songs from the troubled Balkans and the Black Sea region.

And finally, researcher Suzanne Hendriks has a nerdy quiz in which flags may be waved!

*The performance will be in Dutch
