A woman known as Mother Courage risks everything during the war to survive with her children. As a trader, she tirelessly travels through a harsh, chaotic world, in which unexpected moments of humor and even love sometimes arise. In this new musical adaptation of Mother Courage, director Liesbeth Coltof brings Brecht's classic directly into the 21st century.
Grand musical theater
In Mother Courage, you will see a diverse mix of actors, dancers, and musicians. The band Spill Gold plays live music inspired by texts from poets from war zones such as Gaza and Ukraine, where the reality of war leaves deep scars. These voices make it tangible what it is like to fight for survival.
With stimulus guide and audio introduction for the blind and visually impaired. On Saturday7 June there will be a meet and feel and audio description. On Sunday 8 June with a sign language interpreter.
The 'Courages' of our time
"I have met them: the Courages of our time. Women who are trying to raise their children in the hell of war or occupation. Mothers in the wars in Gaza, Ukraine, or Sudan. They are not sweet women; kindness is reserved for those who live in peace and prosperity. But they never give up; they stand firm through the stress and sadness. Beneath their hard shell and despite the injustice they face, they preserve their humanity with a courage that is difficult for us to imagine. In this performance, I hope to give them the respect they deserve.” - Director Liesbeth
