Commemorative dialogue in the Grote Kerk: It starts with words
- Date: 04 May
- label.tijd 14:30 - 16:30
- Location: Grote Kerk

We will discuss war stories from World War II and conflicts today. Special attention will be paid to how words influence war and conflict.
The theme “It starts with words” reminds us of the importance of language. The horrors of World War II did not begin with actions, but with words that justified exclusion and discrimination. Today, events around the world show how language can be the beginning of division and injustice. On the other hand, words can also offer hope, comfort, and strength. That is why we pause, listen, and speak, to remember and shape the future with words of respect and humanity.
Program:
- 2:30 p.m. Opening
- 2:35 p.m. Introduction by Ido Van Blijdesteijn, National Support Center for Guest Speakers on WWII Today
- 2:55 p.m. Dialogue in small groups
- 4:15 p.m. Plenary feedback
- 4:30 p.m. Closing
The dialogue meeting will take place in the Grote Kerk in The Hague and precedes the annual public commemoration ceremony in the Grote Kerk with the same theme. Depending on your preference, you can participate in one of the meetings or both. The commemoration meeting will take place between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Afterwards, there will be an opportunity to walk together to Carnegieplein for two minutes of silence and the wreath laying ceremony.
