Road to Summit, The Hague programme of Peace and Justice

Where the archers of the Saint Sebastian Guild once gathered, you will now find the Historical Museum of The Hague. Beautifully situated on the Hofvijver, in the heart of The Hague's historic center, here you can learn all about the history and development of the city of The Hague. Magnificent paintings and unique objects bring this story to life.

Typical The Hague

The Hague has many faces: government center, royal capital, international city of peace and justice, Beat City—but The Hague is also the city of ADO and the stork. The Hague Historical Museum reflects all these facets in its exhibitions and in its diverse permanent collection. Overlooking the most famous pond in the Netherlands, the Hofvijver, you can see the development of the city on a digital growth map in our museum. Cityscapes from different periods show life as it was in the past. The city's long history as the political and administrative center of the Netherlands is clearly evident here. And even though the King has his working palace here, The Hague is not the capital. With the court came the need for luxury goods, while guest houses and orphanages took care of the city's poor. The chic residents of The Hague lived side by side with the ordinary people. Hats and caps alternated.
